The Feast of Artichoke
Every year in May is the great feast of the Artichoke, the great festival of Iria, as the artichoke is the main product of the Iria valley. The feast of the artichoke includes: traditional music and dances until the early hours of the morning, foods with an essential ingredient…the artichoke. The visitor has the opportunity to taste artichokes cooked by the locals with a variety of recipes. The celebration usually takes place in the main square in the center of the village.
The Epiphany celebrated on January 6 is one of the brilliant feasts of Iria. Each year, the ‘Holy Cross Dive ‘and the Sanctuary of the Water is celebrated, where the whole crowd gathers in the area of Iria beach, the Divine Liturgy of the Epiphany is chanted in the Holy Temple of St. Constantine, and then the clergy and the faithful will follow established Dive of the Holy Cross at sea in the beach of Iria. At the end of the sequence the Holy Cross with all the people is taken from house to house from door to door of Iria.
